Skyway Renton restaurants are a short, independent strip rather than a dining district: a handful of family-run kitchens along Renton Avenue S in the heart of Skyway-West Hill, on the ridge between Rainier Beach and Renton. What the strip lacks in size it makes up in range. In a few blocks you can get soul food and barbecue ribs, Vietnamese banh mi, halal Cham cooking, Mexican street snacks and a drive-thru espresso that has been pouring since 1995.
This guide covers the Skyway Renton restaurants that are open now, each placed at its street address, plus the neighborhood favorites that have closed so you do not drive up the hill for a shuttered door. After more than 26 years guiding families through Renton and the West Hill, we have learned that buyers want to know what is actually within five minutes of the house, not what an old directory says. Every business below was checked at its address in September 2026.

What the Skyway Renton Restaurants Scene Really Looks Like
Skyway-West Hill is not part of the City of Renton. It is an unincorporated community of King County, sitting in Renton’s potential annexation area, and its businesses carry Seattle mailing addresses even though they are neither in Seattle nor Renton. That in-between status shapes the food scene. The commercial core is small, public investment has historically lagged behind the incorporated cities on either side, and almost every kitchen is owner-operated. You will not find chain restaurant rows here. You will find the owner behind the counter.
The community itself is one of the most racially diverse in Washington, and the menus reflect it. Soul food, Vietnamese, Cham and Mexican cooking share a few blocks of the same street. King County’s Skyway-West Hill subarea plan, adopted in 2022, targets that business district for mixed-use investment, so the strip is expected to change over the coming years. For now it is modest, local and worth knowing well if you are thinking about buying on the hill. Our guide to whether Skyway-West Hill is part of Renton explains what unincorporated status means for taxes and services.
Where to Eat: Skyway Renton Restaurants on Renton Avenue S
The open Skyway Renton restaurants cluster at two points on Renton Avenue S: a south group around S 126th Street, where Angel City, My’s, Nevzat’s and the Beach Comber sit within a block of each other, and a north group near S 118th Street, where Salima Specialties, Crazy Corn and Skyway Park Bowl share a stretch of storefronts. The two groups are about a mile apart.
Angel City Deli: soul food and barbecue
Angel City Deli, at 12621 Renton Ave S, is the anchor of the south end of the strip. The Black-owned deli has been serving home-style barbecue and soul food since 2011, and regulars come for the rib dinner plate, the barbecue chicken sandwich and the sweet potato pie. It also runs box lunches and catering. The deli is closed Mondays and opens at noon Tuesday through Friday, so check current hours before a weekend visit.
My’s Vietnamese Sandwiches and Deli
Next door at 12619 Renton Ave S, My’s Vietnamese Sandwiches and Deli is the neighborhood’s go-to for banh mi. The menu runs to more than a dozen sandwiches, from grilled pork to Vietnamese meatloaf, plus pho and Vietnamese coffee, and there are vegetarian and vegan fillings for mixed households. It opens at 8 am and runs until 7 pm most days, with shorter Sunday hours, and it is closed Tuesdays. For a West Hill household, this is the easy weekday lunch.
Salima Specialties: halal Cham cooking
Salima Specialties, at 11805 Renton Ave S, Suite C, is the most distinctive kitchen on the hill. Salima and Asari Mohamath opened it in 2022 with their daughter Liza, years after their earlier Salima’s Restaurant on Martin Luther King Jr Way closed in 2009. The cooking is Cham, the cuisine of the Muslim Cham people of Cambodia and Vietnam, and the entire menu is halal, with Vietnamese, Malaysian and Thai influences running through it. Brisket pho, chicken satay with peanut sauce and chicken skewers are the dishes people drive in for. It is closed Mondays and opens for dinner only on Tuesdays. Older community listings describe Salima as Somali; it is not, and the Cham menu is the reason to go.
Crazy Corn: elotes and mangonadas
A few doors north at 11809 Renton Ave S, Crazy Corn is a family-owned stand that has been serving Mexican antojitos since June 2019. The draw is elotes, mangonadas, diablitos, tostilocos and fresh fruit cups. It is an evening stop, open 5 to 10 pm Monday through Saturday, and in summer it is the kind of place families walk to after dinner.
Nevzat’s Espresso
Back at the south end, Nevzat’s Espresso at 12602 Renton Ave S has been Skyway’s coffee stop since July 1995, when it started as a drive-thru espresso stand. It still runs the drive-thru, with pastries and light snacks, from 6 am on weekdays and 7 am on weekends until 5:30 pm. For commuters heading down the hill toward I-5 or I-405, it is the morning routine. If you want a sit-down cafe, our Renton coffee shops guide maps the roasters and cafes a short drive away.
Beach Comber Sports Bar and Grill and Skyway Park Bowl
For an evening out without leaving the hill, the Beach Comber Sports Bar and Grill at 12623 Renton Ave S is the long-running neighborhood bar, serving burgers, Alaskan fish and chips, barbecue, pizza and salads, with a DJ and karaoke on weekends. It opens mid-afternoon Tuesday through Saturday and at noon on Sunday. Up the street, Skyway Park Bowl at 11819 Renton Ave S is a retro bowling alley with evening hours on select nights.
If a close-knit, independent corner of the Renton area like Skyway-West Hill appeals to you, we would love to help you find a home within walking distance of the strip. Contact The Rache Team and we will show you what is available on the hill.
Just Down the Hill: Ethiopian at Winnie’s on Rainier Avenue S
The East African cooking often credited to Skyway is mostly down the hill rather than on Renton Avenue S. The closest example is Winnie’s Cafe and Deli, at 11301 Rainier Ave S, which the Skyway Coalition includes in its business directory but which sits at the bottom of the slope in the Rainier Beach area. Owner Woina, known as Winnie, serves Ethiopian coffee imported from Ethiopia alongside injera, a vegan combination plate and tibs, from 8 am to 8 pm. For a West Hill household it is a short drive down the hill.
Renton’s own international restaurants, from downtown to the Highlands, are covered in our Renton dining guide.
Which Skyway Renton Restaurants Have Closed?
Several places that still appear in older Skyway Renton restaurants lists and neighborhood roundups are no longer open. Checking before you go saves a trip, and for buyers it is an honest picture of how much the strip turns over. As of September 2026:
- Catfish Corner Express, 11805 Renton Ave S. The Skyway fish-and-chips outpost is closed. Salima Specialties now operates in the same building.
- Ban Mê Restaurant Bar and Lounge, 11843 Renton Ave S. The Vietnamese restaurant and karaoke lounge is closed.
- Sra Bua Thai Cuisine, 11425 Rainier Ave S. The Thai restaurant is closed.
- Moon Village Bakery, 7418 S 126th St. The storefront is closed.
- The Skyway 7-Eleven at 12702 Renton Ave S and the Skyway Food grocery at 12600 Renton Ave S have both closed.
Turnover like this is common in small business districts that have seen little public investment, and it is one of the problems the subarea plan is meant to address. The kitchens that remain have lasted for a reason, and several of them, from Nevzat’s to Angel City, have been on the hill for well over a decade.
How Skyway Renton Restaurants Fit Everyday Life on the Hill
Living in Skyway-West Hill means a small, personal food strip at the top of the hill and much larger options a short drive away. Most households pair the neighborhood spots with regular trips down into Renton. The Landing covers chain restaurants, a cinema and big-box shopping, and downtown Renton adds cafes and the Tuesday farmers market in season.
Groceries follow the same pattern. The Grocery Outlet at 11656 68th Ave S is Skyway’s everyday grocer, and specialty international shopping means a drive to Renton Village or NE Sunset Boulevard in the Highlands, which our Renton international grocery guide maps store by store. None of that is far. Skyway’s position between Seattle and Renton is exactly what makes it convenient, and our Skyway-West Hill neighborhood guide covers the commute, homes and schools in full.
Which Neighborhoods Put You Closest to Skyway Renton Restaurants?
If walking to the Skyway Renton restaurants matters to you, the answer is the streets immediately around Renton Avenue S. A few honest trade-offs across the West Hill:
- Central Skyway, near Renton Ave S and S 126th St. Walking distance to Angel City, My’s, Nevzat’s and the Beach Comber. Housing is mostly mid-century ramblers and split-levels, with newer townhomes and infill mixed in. Sidewalks are uneven, so walkability varies by block.
- North Skyway, near S 118th St. Closest to Salima Specialties, Crazy Corn and Skyway Park Bowl, and a quick drive to Rainier Beach and Winnie’s.
- Lakeridge and the west slope. More view lots toward Lake Washington and a quieter street grid. The strip becomes a short drive rather than a walk.
- Earlington, on the Renton side of the hill. Inside the City of Renton, a few minutes’ drive from the Skyway strip and closer to downtown Renton dining. Our Earlington neighborhood guide covers it.
For buyers weighing the West Hill against other parts of Renton, our Renton Highlands vs Skyway-West Hill comparison lays the two hills side by side, and our Skyway-West Hill home prices snapshot covers what homes near the strip are selling for.
